Woodland is one of the major
types of vegetation in Hong Kong. According to the
International Biological Programme, the term "woodland"
refers to "open or closed vegetation with the principal
layer consisting of trees, these averaging over 5 m
tall", while our government publication Land Utilization
in Hong Kong (1968) defined it as "land with a continuous
cover of shrubs and trees over 8 feet (2.4 m) in height
with interlocking canopies, not being within afforested
areas".
