B) Belt transect
This method is an elaboration of the line transect,
and more information can be obtained. Along the line, instead of recording
only those plants touching specific markers, all the plants within a specific
distance (along the line, not just the markers) are recorded. This belt
is often divided into a linear series of quadrats for systematic analysis.
The parameters to be measured include the percentage cover, canopy width,
diameter of trunk at breast-height, individual numbers, plant height,
etc.
The results are to be mapped in a histogram chart
along the belt transect (Fig. 2-3).
